Free Teacher CPD for A Day of Welcome 2023

in association with International Rescue Committee

This year, we are working with International Rescue Committee (IRC) to provide free teacher training to compliment schools’ involvement in A Day of Welcome.

The IRC will be hosting a webinar which aims to support schools and educators to develop inclusive and nurturing learning spaces where refugee and asylum-seeking students can gain the necessary academic, social and emotional skills to develop their full potential. Attendees will also be signposted to additional free training about The Healing Classroom Approach, trauma-informed teaching and EAL support. They will also have access to Ukrainian and Afghan country briefings and Social and Emotional lesson plans and games.

Healing Classrooms with International Rescue Committee

Date: Tuesday 6 June 2023
Time:
4:00-5:30 PM
Location:
Zoom (online)

Healing Classrooms are safe and nurturing learning spaces where children affected by crisis and conflict can learn, grow and thrive.

This session will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the Healing Classrooms approach and strategies to provide the best possible welcome and support to refugee and asylum-seeking students. Your training will be led by an IRC education specialist who has experience of the English education system, and who has worked with refugees in the UK and aborad.

The IRC will also provide access to an online bank for teaching and teacher development and comprehensive country briefings to assist schools to develop a greater understanding of the culture and the education system in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
